Guess Who Eloped in Stanley Park Last Week

So I photographed a wedding in Stanley Park on Saturday, but I can’t show you too many pictures or tell you the names of the beautiful bride and handsome groom.

You see, the couple engineered their elopement so stealthily that no one knows of their marriage but me, my assistant, and the justice of the peace who performed the ceremony. The Maltese Falcon and Mona Lisa involve less mystery than this exchange of vows.

By eloping, the couple definitely reduced the amount of pascal units, which measure stress and pressure, they expended on their wedding. (Not to mention money.)

The ceremony took place by the wishing well in the park. When the day started it looked and felt like it would be chillier than Winnipeg in fall, but by the time the wedding commenced it was sunny and pleasant. Following their vows, the bride and groom took a ride in a horse-drawn carriage before disembarking near Third Beach, where we photographed them gazing at the sunset.

Last I saw, they were sipping on a sparkling beverage that looked like it came from France and planning how to tell everyone the news. Perhaps a carefully worded message with hints about who they are just might work. Isn’t that how Hera told Achilles he was the son of Zeus? Or is it an episode of Zena I’m thinking of? Oh, well, I’m sure everyone will figure it out someday.

Vancouverites Celebrate Canada Day!

Was there a better place to celebrate Canada Day 2008 than Vancouver?

The weather was perfect, the fireworks at Canada Place were breathtaking and the pandemonium at Granville Island was delightful for the nation’s 141st birthday.

Thanks to the Vancouver International Jazz Festival, revelers were treated to free musical performances by top-notch artists like the New Orleans Ale Stars. Dancers swung along to the tunes outside the bandshells erected by Apex Tents and theatre performers like the hilarious stilt-walking hockey players added to the festive spectacle.

Throw in a parade, free cake, beer gardens and great food at the Public Market and you had the ingredients for quite the birthday bash.
